New Zealand identification that works at night. The Generation III NZ IR Flag is built from laser-cut 500D MULTICAM® Cordura with IR Solas fabric — strictly reflective in the infrared spectrum, invisible to the naked eye.
✕ Economy IR Lights You Up Under White Light
Cheap IR patches reflect visible light too — so the flag that's meant to mark you covertly for aircraft glows like a beacon under a torch or vehicle headlights, blowing the position you were trying to protect. Gen 3 SOLAS IR reflects in the infrared spectrum only: dark and subdued to the eye, bright as day through an NVD.
◈ Gen 3 SOLAS IR Retro-Reflective Material
Built with mil-spec SOLAS IR retro-reflective material. Unlike economy IR — which reflects both visible and infrared light and can appear reflective under normal conditions — Gen 3 covert IR reflects only in the infrared spectrum. Under normal lighting it remains visually subdued. When illuminated by an NVD's IR emitter, infrared light is retro-reflected directly back to the source, making the NZ flag clearly identifiable for IFF purposes without any visible-light signature.
It won't give your position away. This is strictly infrared-reflective SOLAS — not a generic 3M reflective product. It returns a signature only when it is both viewed through a night-vision device and hit by an IR light source, retro-reflecting straight back to that emitter. It does not glow in the dark. It's an IFF (identification friend-or-foe) panel — it tells friendly NV-equipped viewers who you are, and nothing more.
